Turn your phone into a crime fighting weapon! Police statistics - TopicsExpress

Turn your phone into a crime fighting weapon! Police statistics and newspaper reports all show that one of the most common targets in a personal attack is your cellphone. Now instead of being a target, your phone can be used to protect you, and hopefully assist in the arrest of the criminal as well. PanicGuard is an application for smart phones, which turns your phone into an all-in-one alarm, SMS alert, GPS tracker, video recorder and evidence gatherer. Like most good ideas, the way that it works is deceptively simple. We believe that in a potentially dangerous situation you don’t want anything complicated or fancy, you want something that works, and gets you help, fast. PanicGuard was designed to be as simple and easy to use as possible. This straightforward approach starts when you place PanicGuard in its standby mode. The PanicGuard pulse gives you peace of mind knowing that your phone is instantly ready to help you, without the need to have your phone on display. We aim to boost your confidence to reduce the risk of an attack in the first place, as all research shows that a confident person is less likely to be attacked. Should anything happen to you, you activate the PanicGuard alarm by either shaking or tapping your phone, at which point your phone will give out a loud, piercing alarm, in order to attract maximum attention and make any would-be assailants think twice. On activation of the alarm, PanicGuard also instantly sends an SMS to all of the emergency contacts chosen by you, letting them know that you are in danger, together with your exact location. The SMS will also enable people to log into your account on panicguard.co.za where they can track your movements in real time and view a video or audio recording of what is happening. Your phone continues to update it’s location to your account page until it is deactivated by you, which will allow the Police or an armed response company to track the phone, and hopefully arrest the attacker. As the video is uploaded directly to your PanicGuard page, it can even be used as evidence to assist in the conviction of the criminal. Because we feel that PanicGuard needs to start working straight away, making a contribution towards fighting crime, there is no charge for the application, and the first month’s subscription is free. Thereafter, the subscription will be only R40 a month, so that we can have as many people as possible benefitting from PanicGuard. Although we can easily see how PanicGuard will benefit you in a situation where you are attacked, it will be equally useful in a medical emergency, domestic abuse, elderly people who may not be able to remember which numbers to use, or children who are lost or afraid.
