~ Turns out this story is fake ~ However, Id like to point out how easy it is to have apathy (or even worse - denial) for the suffering of other people in a situation where you may actually benefit. - Think of the cigarette companies that are in constant denial of the harmful effects of their products, while at the same time being praised for their business success. - Think of business owner that lowers expenses by preferring to downsize employee staff instead of reducing his own payout to better compete in the market. - Think of the cell phone companies that prefer to hang up suicide nets to catch suicide jumpers instead of improving working conditions because they benefit from increased sales of cheaply made products. This mindset is built right into the competitive market model.
