Twas the night before transplant & all through the room, chemo is - TopicsExpress

Twas the night before transplant & all through the room, chemo is done and will never resume. Meds were hung on the pole with great care. Tina lay dozing, breathing HEPA filtered air. All the nurses finished with vitals and meds and the patients lay sleeping in hospital beds. Then all of a sudden a nurse rushed in. What did she see, but a sight very odd, their patient was dancing to tunes on her ipod. She just couldnt sleep with transplant so near and greeted the next day with a hint of fear. Two cord blood units from Europe will repopulate her marrow & the cancer will clear. The challenges are many and should not be dismissed. Theyll be treated with meds that appear on this list: Noreal, zofran, ativan, fluconazole, ursodol When numbers are low, transfusions shell need & infection precautions we all must heed. After some weeks her numbers will rise and then she will shout with tears in her eyes. I am coming home soon, dont worry or fret. I will soon be in Vermont you can bet. And all of you who give love and support, whose close faithful friendship cancer cant thwart. And then when the dancing faded away, Tina lay down to rest for her big day. So think of her, friends as she gets this transplant. This trip to Dartmouth is no vacation. Shell be thinking of you as she gets her new cells. Shell be thinking of you and wishing you well. So that when this is over and when this is done. Well all be together for years to come!
