Twelve DEC Forest Rangers from across the state successfully completed a two day mountain bike course for law enforcement officers at the DECs Scaroon Manor Campground & Day Use Area: bit.ly/1jXWpZB. The course included classroom work, field training, written tests and a bicycle course test. DEC Forest Rangers use bicycles to patrol DEC campgrounds and roads and bicycle trails on forest preserve, state forests and wildlife management area lands. DEC Region 5 Forest Rangers Mark St. Claire, Chuck Kabrehl and Tom Edmunds were the course instructors and based their instruction on a course developed by the Suffolk County Sheriffs Office.
