...Twelve leading schools in Colombo took part in this competition. They were Holy Family Convent, St Bridget’s Convent, St Lawrence’s Convent, Gateway College, Carey College, Asian International School, Ananda College, Visakha Vidyalaya, Ramanathan Hindu Ladies College, Bishop’s College, Muslim Ladies College and Stafford International School. These schools, having participated in workshops organized by Alliance Finance to raise their awareness about the environment, proposed green projects to be funded by the company. They came up with some interesting ideas. The reputed environmentalist Vimukthi Weeratunga evaluated these proposals and picked the top three. The first place was won by Asian International School for their project to enhance the environment of Sri Sangamiththa College. The second place was won by Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya for a project to plant and maintain trees along the Marine Drive, while the third place was won by Gateway College for a project to implement a waste management system.....
