Twelve years ago today i was part of the Washington, D.C. 9/11 experience. One of the guys i was meeting with was learning in real time that his wife was on the plane that originated from Dulles - the sheer panic in the room as we learned more and more details was intense. i left my building and walked to a hilltop that was about a mile away from the pentagon. I watched the pentagon burn and saw 1st responders head straight into harms way. The chaos in the street was unreal. i rode my bike in that day and it was the best tool I could have ever had. I decided by 1030 it was time to get out the city. I rode past the monument, followed the directions of the park police and finally wielded my way through backstreet to the trail that leads from Georgetown to Bethesda - a few hours later I was home. That day i learned some lesson in life that i will never forgot - 1) love people out loud - care for them immensely because life as we know it can turn on a dime. 2) believing in God really is the only thing that sustains you when things around you make no sense. 3). Always have a family emergency plan. God be with the families who lost loved ones that day - they still need our prayers and love.
