Twenty eight years ago a Historical Sarbat Khalsa (assembly) was called on the 26th January 1986. It was to be a historic day in our history. Despite great efforts by the Indian government to interrupt the gathering and outlaw attendees, army road blocks and mass arrests were made but this people’s referendum was attended by over 500,000 Sikhs from all backgrounds, political leanings, jathas (groups) and factions. Under the guidance of Baba Takhur Singh Jee Acting Mukhi of the Damdami Taksaal , the Sarbat Khalsa unanimously agreed on fighting for an independent state and the flag of Khalistan was hoisted onto Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib. They demolished the state-built Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and set about re-building the structure through the legitimate means of Kaar Sewa (Sikh practice of constructing historical buildings through entirely voluntary efforts). The 1986 Sarbat Khalsa passed many Gurmatas (resolutions) and established the Five Member Panthic Committee and the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) to steer the Sikh Nation forward. Twenty eight years on over 10,000’s of Sikhs have given their blood for this Panthic war of independence. Their wishes and dreams are our duty to fulfil. Whichever background you come from, whatever your personal beliefs, as Sikhs of the Guru the Hukamnama passed on this historical day bind us all together as a nation. May Guru Jee give us the strength to carry on the struggle for Khalistan. if the Indian Government invaded the Darbar Sahib complex, the foundation for Khalistan will have been laid.
