Twenty years ago, my family experienced Red Cross disaster relief first-hand, after the Altadena wildfire destroyed 126 homes, including ours. The Red Cross made a big show of helping out, but the only useful item my parents received was a small packet of toiletries. Expensive, useless knick-knacks were handed out, and a year or so later, the Red Cross hosted an expensive party celebrating their great success, at the Altadena Country Club, with more useless keepsakes handed out to commemorate their non-existent assistance. I have kept a few around as a daily reminder of human folly. Needless to say, this was a real eye-opener for us, and I have watched closely, with disgust, as scandal after scandal has been brought to light ever since, of which this exposé is only the latest. The American Red Cross at its core is corrupt and immune to reform -- by far the worst charity in history, in terms of money stolen and wasted.
