Twin Challenges of #SustainableEnergy and #Environmental Protection addressed at 7th International SEEP Conference Hosted by BUiD The British University in Dubai (BUiD) today welcomes the 7th International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environmental Protection (SEEP). The 3 -day event is taking place at BUiD campus. This conference provides a forum for researchers and practitioners, academics as well as industry to explore and develop latest thinking on the conference subjects. Prof. Bassam Abu Hijleh, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and IT said:” Sustainability has significant importance and recognition in the region in general and in the UAE in particular. This is clear from the range of local practices and regulations introduced recently both at the national and local levels. It’s both a systematic and specific understanding of multiple components needed to address and tame the challenges of sustainability. This conference showcases the latest relevant international as well as regional technologies, practices, innovations, experiences and policies. It provides a focus on the intellectual rigour and debate required for transition to a more sustainable lifestyle as well as a greener economy”. The Conference has approved 82 submitted papers from different areas of the world. These papers will be presented through 16 sessions taking place throughout the 3-day conference. Different sessions will be addressing Biomass conversion, Solar &Wind Applications, Materials and Fuel Developments, Vehicle Technology & Drives, Modeling & Simulation, Health & Environment, and Environment Management & Climate Change. The Keynote speakers from different backgrounds in the first day of the conference are : Prof Henrik Lund, Professor in Energy Planning at Aalborg University, Denmark, “Renewable Energy Systems; A Smart Energy Systems Approach to the Choice and Modeling of 100% Renewable Solutions”, Mr. Mohammed Al Shamsi, Vice Presedent ( Civil- Pfroject Engineering & Water Maintainance- DEWA) “ DEWA Sustainable Building” ,DR. ARUN JHAVERI ,Senior Energy Adviser/Consultant and Certified Sustainable Development Professional, “CARBON REDUCTION STRATEGIES”, Eng. Khaled Bushnaq, Chief Executive Officer of Energy Management Services – EMS, ”Energy Efficiency in UAE – Time has never been better”, Prof Abdul Ghani Olabi, Director of the Institute of Engineering and Energy Technologies at University of the West of Scotland “Energy Storage System Developments”. The British University in Dubai is one of the few higher not-for-profit education institutions in the region and offers specialized programmes at the Master’s and PhD levels covering a wide range of Sustainability related research areas. With 141 doctoral students and 533 Master students and 642 postgraduates alumni and an average 30% Emirati students profile, BUiD works closely with government bodies, semi-governmental organization and NGOs to advance the UAE sustainable agenda as well as having British and global academic association at its core bringing scientific and professional methodologies as well as policy analyses to this crucial area of challenge. With sustainability, mobility and opportunity as the core theme of Expo 2020, This Conference represents another R&D milestone on some of the most important journey of BUiD, nation and the region in the 21 century.
