Two days of sitting staring into space and this is the epiphany/paragraph that has just saved Susan: Whilst hegemony is “certainly immanent in Biomedicine” (Csordas 1998, 417), it does not follow that there is such thing as a totalizing Biomedical Hegemony. However, it would be fair and accurate to say, that the dynamic that exists between Biomedicine and CAM as competing modalities, effectively mimics the dynamics of the power relations and tensions between hegemon and subaltern in general.
