A third person is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Police are hunting for the man who entered the WINZ office and discharged a firearm this morning. The gunman left the scene on a push bike and should not be approached, police say. Police are requesting that locals take precautions and stay indoors. Ashburton Borough School has confirmed it is in lockdown. Police have advised the school to keep all students in their classrooms and to keep all doors and windows locked with the blinds drawn. Advertisement Ministry of Social Development chief executive, Brendan Boyle, says they will be offering support to staff who were working at the office at the time of the shooting. We are all shocked by the news of this mornings incident at the Ashburton Work and Income office, he said. He said they have closed all Ministry of Social Development offices in Ashburton, Timaru and Christchurch, until they know more. Police say a full police response has been deployed.
