Two die, house razed in Nasarawa anti-impeachment protests: The protest against the move by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to impeach the State Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, continued on Thursday as protesters stormed Lafia, the state capital. Two people died in the protest and one person injured when over 5,000 people marched from the Government House along Shendam Road Lafia, through major streets. There were protests in Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area and Keffi on Wednesday. Investigations by The PUNCH revealed that the Gwandere youth invaded a house belonging to an Eggon man and set it ablaze including his car. Further finding also indicated that the house had the governorship posters of Labaran Maku on its wall. Confirming the development to The PUNCH in Lafia on Thursday, the state capital, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ismaila Numaan, denied knowledge that two people were killed, but said security operatives had been deployed in the area to restore peace in the area. Numman, however, admitted that the house was burnt in the early hours of Thursday but could not confirm who was responsible. The PUNCH findings indicated that impeachment notice served on the governor did not go down well with the Gwandere youth, resulting in the violent protests to register their anger. Our reporter, who was at the scene of the incident, sighted one of the warring youths with a deep machete cut in the upper arm as blood spilled uncontrollably. Our reporter sighted a military Hilux van carrying the two dead bodies’ heading to Dr. Agu Hospital, ostensibly to deposit them at the mortuary. Prime chronicle
