Two great revelations come to us through the Word: God is - TopicsExpress

Two great revelations come to us through the Word: God is a consuming fire and God is love. They combine in a single flame of love. That image is central to an understanding of the Word and we cannot afford to neglect it. God originally revealed himself to Moses as fire. It was a privileged moment in Moses’ life but Moses did not go off and spend the rest of his life merely talking about his experience. God commissioned Moses for a specific task and the fire leaped from the bush into his heart. That day he started out on the most extraordinary career any man would ever know, changing the future of the whole world. Whatever God reveals about himself is meant to have a practical impact on our lives not simply to give us a topic of conversation. He does these things to put fire in our belly, not to given us an experience of euphoria, emotional satisfaction, or even blessings and thrills. Moses did not go back to the wilderness bush for a repeat experience. He went from there as God directed him. Then, 1,500 years later, on the day of Pentecost, the fire of God appeared again in Jerusalem where 120 disciples were sitting together in fellowship. It rested on each of them. Like Moses, they did not go back for a repeat experience. The fire had empowered them that day and they went out to do the job awaiting them. God bless you.
