Two more provinces sign for health deal #Oro_Province n Western Province By Sally Pokiton, Oct 8, 2014. PNG Loop Two more provinces this morning signed the partnership agreements with the Health Department for the Provincial Health Authorities to be implemented in their provinces. Western Governor Ati Wobiro and Northern Governor Gary Juffa this morning signed the PHA partnership agreements with Health Minister Michael Malabag. The partnership agreement signed will pave the way for provincial health authorities to be established. The partnership will sanction the establishments of the provincial health authority policy, governance and operational framework. Minister Malabag says under this arrangement the CEO of the provincial authority will be recognised as a deemed departmental head and its implementation allows for unification of rural health and public hospitals management and delivery systems. This arrangement will see the provincial governments support the authority from its internal revenue while funding support will also come from the National Government. So far seven provinces have declared and are fully functioning with the provincial health authorities. These are Western Highlands, Milne Bay, Eastern Highlands, West New Britain, Enga, Vanimo and Manus. East Sepik, Southern Highlands, Western and Northern provinces have so far only signed the partnership agreement. National Capital District, New Ireland, Madang, Hela, Morobe, East New Britain, Simbu and Gulf are other provinces that the Health Department will be looking at getting on board for the PHA concept. Meanwhile plans are now ready to start implementation for the PHA in NCD, Western, Northern, New Ireland and Hela by March 2015.
