Two people died and more than 150 others were tested positive as result of Kala-azar, the second largest parasitic killer disease after malaria in Arbajahan ward, Wajir County. The disease is caused by protozoan parasites. The parasite migrates to the liver,spleen and the bone marrow and, if left untreated, will almost always result in the death of the infected person. The disease is characterized by prolong fever, weight lost ,anemia and substantial swelling of the liver and spleen. The disease is fast spreading to the neighboring counties of Mandera and Garissa. The problem is hurdle by the vastness of the area and lack of local telecommunication services to report the cases. in addition, the ignorance of the people is posing a challenge to early detection as people rarely goes for check up. A team of doctors are currently performing tests at Arbajahan ward to a certain the disease and so far 150 persons were confirmed positive and two died of it.
