Two policemen and a civilian were killed after militants attacked police vehicle at Galendar area of Pampore in south Kashmirs Pulwama district on Wednesday evening. Official sources said that militants opened heavy fire upon a police team escorting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of IRP 11 battalion Abdul Hameed of Keegam Shopian when he was attending natures call at Galendar area this afternoon. Two security guards of the officer and a civilian were seriously injured in the attack. All the injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospital where all the three including the pedestrian succumbed to injuries. The slain have been identified as civilian Manzoor Ahmed Kasab son of Ali Mohammad of Awantipora and the policemen Head Constable Mohammad Yaqoob son of Abdul Ahad of Chogam Kulgam, Mehraj-ud-Din son of Naseer Ahmad of Ganawayan Zainpora, Shopian . They said that after carrying out the attack, militants decamped with a carbine rifle from the spot. However, the DSP escapes unhurt in the attack, they said, adding that the police vehicle was on way to south Kashmirs Anantnag district from Kargil. A police handout said that Wednesday evening militants fired upon a police vehicle at Galander in the jurisdiction of Police Station Pampore. Two police personnel and a civilian got injured. All the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. The civilian and two policemen succumbed to the injuries. The area has been cordoned off and search of the area has started. Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujhadeen while claiming the responsibility of the Pampore attack said that such attacks would continue in wake Indias independence celebrations in Kashmir. Operational Spokesperson Hizbul Mujhadeen Baleeg-u-Din told that its Highway Squad carried out the Pampore attack while Mujhadeen managed to reach their safe destinations after the attack. He further claimed that it were Hizb guerillas that killed the Railway Protection Force personnel Rajinder Singh in Pulwama and said that the rifle of the deceased cop was also snatched by the Mujhadeen after the attack. Hizb Operational Spokesperson further told local news agency that the civilian at Pampore was killed in police firing Hizb Mujhadeen only attacked the cops. According to sources the police team led by DSP Abdul Hameed was deputed to Kargil on the eve of Prime Minister Narinder Modis visit and was returning back towards his battalion headquarter in south Kashmir. Meanwhile, army and SOG have cordoned off the area and started search operation to nab the attackers. Pertinently, militants attacked a BSF convoy injuring 9 soldiers including an Assistant Commandant on Monday night. The responsibility of that attack was claimed by militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen.
