Two sad things as I took my children to Whiteman Air Force Base this morning to go to the bouncy house: When we got there, I heard machine gun fire, and my immediate thought was that the base was under attack by a shooter. I assumed it was the sound if violence rather than the guys practicing at the range. Then once we got to the bounce house, we found out that, like the government, it had been shut down. The woman working there explained tearfully that she was told this morning that she had an hour to pack up her things and go home with no idea when she would have a job to return to. What a difficult time we live in.
