Two things contribute to cavities: Fluoride, by increasing tensile strength (making the teeth hard like glass rather than compression strength which makes them hard like plastic) and it also detaches gum tissue; and Glycerin in toothpaste which is a sugar that coats the teeth and prevents the uptake of minerals. I met research chemist Gerard Judd at a health show in Pasadena Calif many years ago and got his book, Good Teeth Birth to Death. (Skip to page 34 for a summary of his suggested protocol) slideshare.net/cosmicchannelings/good-teeth-birth-to-death-how-to-remineralize-teeth-dr-gerard-judd-nc001 Note that #7 of Dr. Judds protocol suggests to brush with BAR SOAP only. Dr. David Kennedy in one of his books tells of the 80+ year lady who came to him with all her teeth and no cavities, a first for him in his practice. He asked her what she did. She said that when she was a little girl, her mother made her brush her teeth with bar soap. Didnt it taste bad? quipped Dr. Kennedy. Well, she said, you get used to it after 50 years or so. I do use Ivory bar soap now and then. Doesnt taste good, but the teeth sure do feel clean. Wish my mother had made me use it; wouldnt have a mouthful of metal these days. :(
