Two weeks ago I woke up to a horrifying facebook message. Just after the previous nights Tampa Bay SDS meeting, some FRSO cadre were confronted by some people about their groups protection of a rapist. Sol Marquez proceeded to victim blame one of the people he has assaulted, and then made the blatantly false claim that the rapist (Dustin Ponder) wasnt still in FRSO. Another thing I was told was that at some point Sol said youre listening to Walt, and hes a rapist! That people reacted with stunned shock and she repeated herself. You heard me, Walt is a rapist! I have never raped anyone. I am pretty confident that Sol made this claim up on the spot because she desperately wanted to shut down the conversation, and I am totally certain that she was knowingly dishonest in saying what she said. I know that this is the sort of claim that is supposed to be given a presumption of truth, and I wouldnt ask people to do otherwise. I do predict however that with the slightest bit of scrutiny or even passage of time people will come to suspect shes lying. I sure as hell am not going to participate in some FRSO (or any) investigation. I may decide to not comment on Sols claims further. I will continue to condemn Communism 101 for banning me and affirm that they did so because my presence there presents a threat to the continued survival of FRSOs rape culture in its current form. I will continue to say that Daniel Sullivan is a particularly big liar, and that if Sols claim is indeed what they are using to justify the ban, I think its more likely than not that there are people playing a crucial role in this who themselves think Sol is probably lying. I will continue to perceive Sol as a bad person trying to do serious harm to me (unless Im presented with dramatically unexpected evidence about the provenance of her belief that Im a rapist) and behave accordingly. I will attempt to ostracize Sol from activism, get her kicked out of FRSO, and make sure FRSO is held accountable for letting this happen. I dont ask anyone not to counter-organize me, and if you do so, you can probably expect little in the way of direct resistance. I acknowledge that Sol could theoretically have very good reasons for not wanting to be any more forthcoming with information than she has been. Dont like this or give me statements of encouragement unless youre certain that Sol is lying, and not for a bullshit reason like you simply think my character is so good that I could never do such a thing.
