Two years ago today, Tiny Dancer by A Song For Lily-Mae, was recorded. Two years ago today, we brought a very ill little girl out of Galway Hospital to see her song. Two years ago today, the tears poured down my cheeks when I walked into The Blackbox Theatre & saw the amount of people present for my daughter. Two years ago today, I hugged Stephen Macken, who had already spent months working on this project, because what he had achieved was unimaginable. Two years ago today, a beautiful moment happened, when a 4 year old girl approached the drum kit, hit the symbol & giggled, the room exhaled & laughed with her. Two years ago today, I watched singers, who already were completely aware of our daughters illness, sang with an emotion they had never felt before, because thats what seeing a bald 4 year old with a tube in her nose & an appalling prognosis, does to people. Two years ago today, we made magic, because thats what love & compassion mixed with hard work, talent & drive is. Two years ago today, was the beginning of Lily-Mae, a 4 year old child, fighting for her life, becoming the Nations little darling, Our Tiny Dancer. Today is the last day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. That recording has raised more awareness of childhood cancer, both in Ireland & far beyond, than any recording before it. Tiny Dancer by A Song For Lily-Mae went straight to Number 1, where it remained for two weeks. When narrowly missing the Christmas No 1 spot, it became the biggest selling Number 2 in Irish Chart history. When Elton John himself endorsed it, it hit the headlines as far afield as Canada & Australia. It remains Number 1 in The Irish itunes Vocal Chart today. Two years ago today, we didnt know what it was to nearly loose your child from side-effects of treatment. Two years ago today, we had no idea how the horrors of what we have endured completely changes a person. Two years ago today, we didnt truly understand the meaning of the word grateful. We are so grateful she is with us. Two years ago today, we had no idea that the funds that Tiny Dancer, generated would enable her to enrol on a trial to try to prevent relapse of which there is a 70% chance with neuroblastoma. To everyone evolved in Tiny Dancer, we are forever grateful. There are far to many of you to name, the producer, the singers, musicians, musical director, the crew, the volunteers, the managers, distributors, the media & of course you, the people who bought it, thank you a thousand times over.
