Tying a few thoughts together... Hopefully I do not offens in the - TopicsExpress

Tying a few thoughts together... Hopefully I do not offens in the parallels I make. Before this Cup started I didnt know how I would cheer, or how I would feel, seeing as there is so much wrong in Brazil right now, a win feels like a reinforcement to a government that should be reprimanded.... Yet it is the ppl and those in need of some injections of happiness that would benefit from such happiness... And so I let the moment decide how it would turn my heart. I have to admit that as soon as I heard the national anthem, my eyes filled with tears and I found myself completely enthrawled in the moment. As the days passed and the more games I watched, I felt myself more and more wrapped up in a game I thought I would not get attached to.... Today I finally sat to ponder and it was the polar opposite that I experienced today that made me realize it. I read so many articles about hate, rage, anarchy, chaos..... And those articles resounded loudly. The emotion I was overtaken with when I heard the anthem, was the sane as when I heard the Tehilim being read in prayer, the same as when I see tears of joy in the eyes of others and our eyes fill with tears as well....... It was nothing short of HOPE. For me at that moment, it is over something that on the surface is trivial: soccer. But the emotion is actually quite powerful. The most interesting part is that HOPE, experienced in unision bring ppl of all backgrounds, faiths, economic levels etc....together.... And together the emotion becomes immensely magnified. This became especially clear to me as I experienced the connectivity of prayer across the world as we prayed for Gilad, Naftali & Eyal. Hope, across languages, connecting, and so powerful. And so I reflected on so many other things that have been experienced as examples of this, among them: Pride parades across the world, our Jewish communities across the world coming together in prayer to #bringbackourboys...... In the last month our children have had a glimpse of how closely we live despite miles/countires/oceans that keep us apart. Our children have been privy to how technology can tie us all together in seconds. They have seen how distance seems to be eliminated when we feel that others are with us, cheering, sharing, praying, celebrating. They have had such a powerful look at HOPE in action.... When we experience things alongside others, a human connection more powerful than we can explain takes place.... And it has the power to amplify into other emotions and actions: courage, faith, love, pride, patriotism, devotion, loyalty...and so many others. And yet in our moments of beauty, our base human selves sometimes too roar their ugly heads. And so, our children have also seen, gay bashing, antisemitic and racist comments, ppl cheering for the pain of others (whether on the soccer field or in the field of war), ppl calling for revenge or what they deserve! Our kids have been exposed, whether through the news, social media, or even our words at the tv, the opposite of what that moment of unified HOPE represented and gave us a glimpse of... So as we pray, cheer, preach, sing, celebrate, grieve......... Lets take a moment to measure our words and our actions..... And acknowledge the impact they have on those little eyes that look at us in admiration... And learn. #selfreflecting #wealldoit #worlcup2014 #bepositive #love #hope #loveisallweneed
