(U)nity is a musical project and collective idea conceived in the summer of 2006 by Cuban-American drummer, Amaury Acosta and Cuban pianist Axel Tosca Laugart. In their mission of fusing Afro-Cuban culture with modern jazz, soul, hip-hop and gospel they’ve sacrificed neither virtuosity nor groove. With musical influences of the likes of J Dilla, Tower of Power, Chucho Valdés, McCoy Tyner, Robert Glasper, Bon Iver, Arnold Schoenberg, Allan Holdsworth, Jimi Hendrix, Derek Trucks, Tyler the Creator, Irakere, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, Brian Blade, Jay-Z, Buena Vista Social Club, Busta Rhymes and Freddie Hubbard, amongs others. For Their residency at the legendary Zinc Bar in the heart of Greenwhich Village in New York City. The group will be performing songs from their debut album Peace.Love&Music, along with new compositions, exploring in a variety of genres from jazz to rock, to hip hop, to soul but never loosing Axels & Amaurys Afro Cuban Roots and enough montuno & clave to satisfy any Afro-Cuban jazz lover! Bringing to the group the musical flavors of the world; are French Parisian guitarist, Michael Valeanu, Havana-born pianist Axel Tosca Laugart, Ugandan Bassist Alex Da Silva, Providence native, saxophonist Max Cudworth, and Cuban New Yorker, Musical Director & Drummer, Amaury Acosta. Their debut album Peace.Love&Music broke new ground last April 2013 as (U)nity’s manifesto, mission statement and first step to reaching all those who dream of being enlightened, refreshed and inspired by music again.
