U.S. Customs and Border Protection News Release: Inter-agency effort leads to seizure of over 1,100 pounds of marijuana LA CASITA, Texas – Border Patrol agents confiscated more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana Tuesday with the assistance of the Office of Air and Marine and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station made the seizure after OAM pilots witnessed narcotics smuggling activity near the Rio Grande. Border Patrol agents responded and, with additional assistance from a Texas DPS helicopter, discovered an abandoned truck with several bundles of narcotics inside. Additionally, agents arrested a man who was hiding nearby in the brush. The marijuana has an estimated value of more than $910,000. The subject and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol. The Rio Grande Valley Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
