U12 County Final Match Report. On All Ireland Final Sunday Aghada and Bride Rovers had there only little All Ireland to contend with in the County U12 Final in Carrigtwohill. On a damp evening and slippery sod great credit must go to both teams on serving up a thriller. The never say die attitude of the Aghada girls really shone through in this game. The work rate they produced through out the hour was unbelievable. The game was slow to start with each team slow to settle. Aghada were first on the scoreboard with a goal courtesy of Mary Leahy on 14 minutes at this stage Aghada were playing against a stiff wind so this was a good start to the game for the girls. The next score came from the boot of Sinead Condon after some great work by Bridget Wall and Alley Rose in midfield. Bride Rovers got there first score of the game on 25 minutes but in fairness to our girls they kept them at bay for all this time with Katie Terry in goal, Eimear Cronin, Roisin O’Callaghan, Kate Stafford standing up to whatever Bride Rovers threw at them. Bride Rovers were to get the next two scores to leave the score at the short whistle Aghada 1-1 Bride Rovers 1-2 nothing in it and Aghada turning to play with the wind. The first ten minutes of the second half would be crucial to the outcome of this game and Bride Rovers started this half the better with a goal after seven minutes, this was followed by another point but Lauren Linehan was to settle the ship in between with a point quickly followed by another by Lauren Mc Allister and Aghada were now playing some great football to leave the score on 47 minutes Aghada 1-5 Bride Rovers 2-3 but the next thing out of the blue Bride Rovers hit two goals and all of a sudden it was Bride Rovers in the driving seat and with 57 minutes on the clock the score stood at Aghada 1-7 Bride Rovers 4-4 but to be fair to the girls they lifted there heads and drove on and they weren’t going to let this one slip away and the never say die attitude came to the fore. All the girls had to now put there shoulder to the wheel and with Nicola Bennett, Claire Walsh, Aine Mc Grath, Rachel Leahy, Katie O’Farrell driving the ball into the Aghada forwards the chance’s would come and the first one fell to Lauren Linehan after great work by Sally Mc Allister and Eva Rose Boylan there was now a goal in it with 61 minutes on the clock, could we do it was the question on everyone’s lips and this bunch of girls produced the answer and from the resultant kick out the ball was played to Mary Leahy who rattled the back of the Rovers net to level up the match to leave the final score Aghada 3-7 Bride Rovers 4-4. Where a lot of teams would have dropped there heads after Bride Rovers getting the two quick goals the Aghada girls lifted there’s and drove on and got the just reward with a massive finish and an even better “never say die attitude”. Well done girls.
