U14 Hockey vs St. Aidan’s: Last Thursday the U14 girls team had their first League game against St Aidans. We knew this would be a tough game, but the girls worked hard to put what they have practised in lessons into the game. St Aidan’s scored 2 goals in the first half and just before the whistle blew at half time, Lydia scored her first goal of the season with the assist from Olivia. In the second half, the girls focussed on passing the ball into a space and closing down the defence. They achieved this which meant St Aidan’s were unable to score. However, the final score remained 2-1 to St Aidan’s. Player of the Match: Abbie Taylor Goal Scorer: Lydia Hodgson Team: Chloe Hemstead (GK), Sarah Bagley, Codie Bateman, Abbie Burrows, Olivia Caley, Niamh Cody, Lauryn Corbett, Holly Gallagher, Lydia Hodgson, Elli Kharikhou, Abigail Taylor and Melissa McTier. U14 Hockey vs Egglescliffe: Last Friday the U14s played Egglescliffe, who they had not played before. All the girls went into the match with a positive attitude and wanting to continue working on hitting the ball into a space and then moving into a space. Unfortunately Egglescliffe took two early goals, so the team talk at half time was based on closing down the defence and taking the opposition on. Codie Bateman was unable to continue in the second half due to an injury and with no reserves a player form Egglescliffe made up the numbers. Egglescliffe scored a third goal but this didn’t stop QE from the restart to hit the ball down into the D and put pressure on the defence. QE was awarded a penalty corner. Lydia took the corner and hit the ball to Abbie Burrows who stopped the ball cleanly and then passed the ball to Niamh who scored her first goal of the season. Special mention goes to Chloe who made a great save with her hand stopping the ball from going into the top right hand corner. Final score ended 3-1 to Egglescliffe.
