UB students boycott classes It appears the war between Department of Tertiary Education Funding under Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) and tertiary students is far from over. This morning, the Students Representative Council (SRC) members and multitudes of students staged a class boycott over living allowances, sponsorship problems, supplementary examinations, book allowances and accommodation. Speaking in an interview with The Gazette, Secretary General of UB-SRC, Malumbela Gombalume said that the class boycott will continue until their grievances have been answered by MoESD and UB management. “We have taken a resolution with students to stage a class boycott until the ministry and UB management come to address our problems as students, otherwise, this boycott will be indefinite,” he said. Meanwhile, those who were expected to give a solidarity message to the students in the morning, among them the area MP, Dumelang Saleshando, Parliamentary Education Select Committee and Botswana National Youth Council representatives did not show up. Efforts to talk to UB management and Ministry of education officials were futile.
