UFC---- After months of speculation, the self proclaimed best in the world Phil Brooks, better known to the general public as CM Punk, has joined the UFC to compete inside the octagon. Punk, the longest reigning World Wrestling Entertainment champion of the modern era, parted ways with biggest wrestling promotion (WWE) earlier this year after “losing his passion for the business.” At 36 years old, Punk is starting his career late, and that’s why he feels it’s imperative to get started in the fighting game sooner rather than later. While many wrestlers have tried their hand at MMA and slowly faded off into the distance, Punk claims that he is fully committed to his new endeavor. UFC President Dana White, announced the deal during the UFC 181 pay-per-view show, making sure the promotions biggest fans heard about the move first. The year has been difficult at times for the UFC, with several injured champions, a crowded schedule, and the extended absence of longtime mainstays, including Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. The UFC clearly needs new, marketable stars, and the the former straight edge superstar, Punk, will be must-see TV if hes able to compete. I have no idea how Punk would perform, and at his age and injury history, it might just prove he may not get a lot of wins. However, I applaud the guy for giving it a go. If nothing else, it will get a strong amount of buy rates and some entertaining interviews. And if he gets his tail kicked? At least he tried and can go back to writing comics on a six figure contract. Love him or hate him though, he has it made in every direction. Besides, would it not be cool if he got his 1st victory on the anaconda vice grip? J. Coley
