UN mourns special representative in CAR UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has learned with “profound sadness” of the death on Thursday of Margaret Vogt, who served as his Special Representative in the Central African Republic from 2011 to 2013. This is contained in a statement by Ban’s Spokesperson, Stephane DuJarric, in New York. He paid tribute to Vogt’s long and rich career in the UN, the AU and academia. He said, “Vogt was known for her tireless work, unmatched kindness and the incredible courage she displayed in the many dangerous duty stations where she served.” He saluted Vogt’s leadership, including during very turbulent times in Somalia and the CAR, saying she “saved lives, inspired others and brought joy to those she met. ”Her many friends, colleagues and admirers, in the UN and elsewhere, will always remember her profound decency and humanity.” He discribed her as an experienced UN official to head peacebuilding office in Central African Republic She was the Special Representative and Head of the UN Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic NAN reports that Ban on May 19, 2011, appointed Vogt as his Special Representative and Head of the UN Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic. Vogt was Deputy Director of the Africa I Division in the Department of Political Affairs, and a former Deputy Special representative in Somalia.
