‘UNAKOTI’ in Bengali means ‘one less than a crore’. This would be an unusual name for a place, but there is a good reason behind it. Nestled deep in the forested hinterland of northern Tripura, you will find gigantic bas-relief sculptures in huge numbers curved on the rock faces of Raghunandan hills. In fact it is said that the numbers of sculptures of Gods, Goddesses, demons & mythological animals on this hill are actually one less than a crore, thus derieving it’s name Unakoti.
