UNCEASING? 1 Thessalonians 5:17 AMP Be unceasing in prayer - TopicsExpress

UNCEASING? 1 Thessalonians 5:17 AMP Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly]. I believe this is one of the verses on prayer which is risky to talk about. Some people even think Paul didnt mean it when he told the church not to cease in prayer. Some also think that we are to pray at every time. In other words keep praying, but when there is something to be done pause praying and continue with it later. But if praying without ceasing means praying constantly nonstop then we cant say we have something to do so we are neglecting the command of God. So in reality these interpretation cant be fully true. In Acts 12:5, it is said that the church prayed without ceasing for Peter. The word ceasing is from the greek word ektenes, which means stretched-out (a long period of time). This ceasing is different from what Paul talked about in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Pauls ceasing is from the greek word adialeiptõs. This word doesnt mean stretch-out but rather something you dont reframe from it. The difference between what is in Act 12 and what Paul said is that, the one in Act is talking about a lengthy prayer being made at a point in time, while what Paul said means we should not stop or reframe from praying, in the sense that dont quit prayers. In simple terms dont reframe from prayer, be in prayer, for God is seeking to hear you. #gospelacademy Devotional. - August 19th, 2014 -
