UNCLE SAM SAYS HE CAN LET OIL COMPANIES POISON THE SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL Who gave the permits to dump chemically contaminated fracking water into the ocean off the Ventura and Santa Barbara County coast ? Who gave those permissions without any known scientific study of its potential impact on the marine environment? According to documents obtained by the Associated Press it was the US Environmental Protection Agency. (EPA) In the report , the EPA defended offshore fracking, saying the practice does not pollute the environment in a way that would endanger human health. PROVE IT! WHERE ARE THE STUDIES? Plus, what about marine life in and near a federal sanctuary? Fracking fluids can contain hundreds of chemicals — some known and others that are are kept secret . Some of these chemicals are toxic to fish larvae and crustaceans. According to the AP, the EPA gave permission to release fracking fluid into the sea without a separate environmental impact report or statement looking at the possible effects. Although the EPA has jurisdiction, this pollution is within the coastal zone which would appear to involve the California Coastal Commission (CCC) which is supposed to conduct a "federal consistency review."
