UNITED NATIONS RELIEF AND WORKS AGENCY FOR PALESTINE REFUGEES IN THE NEAR EAST UNRWA UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. For its local team, UNRWA is seeking to employ a qualified: Medical Laboratory Technologist for All Areas Vacancy Announcement Number JF/56/2014 Contract Status Fixed Term Appointment Contract Duration 3 years including 1 year of probation Grade 08 Benefits Monthly Salary JD 528.900 Fils. Supplementary Allowance 30 % of basic salary. Other benefits include Provident Fund contribution (15% of basic salary paid by the Agency) and medical insurance. Department Health Department Duty Station All Areas Issue Date 18 December 2014 Deadline for Applications 28 December 2014 Place in the Organisation The incumbent of the post is responsible to the Senior Medical Officer or Medical Officer in-Charge of the Health Centre or the Senior Laboratory Technician (as applicable) and receives technical supervision from the Field Laboratory Services Officer. Primary Duties and Responsibilities In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent: • Supervises and performs the full range of laboratory services including biochemistry, hematology, serology, routine (urine and stool examination) and bacteriology: • Maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and reagents and prepares estimates of requirements for replenishment of consumable supplies; • Maintains laboratory statistical records and prepares monthly reports to ensure availability of data for the health information system; • Reviews and analyzes quality control results (internal and external) and makes the necessary intervention; • Updates the programming of the automated laboratory equipment and follows up the preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment; • Performs such other duties as may be required. Minimum Qualifications • A University Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized university. • Possession of a license to practice laboratory services (where applicable). • At least two years of experience in a providing laboratory services; • Experience in the use of computers and an understanding of their use in health applications. Language Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic Competencies • Good communication, negotiation and listening skills; • Maintains effective working relationships with staff and clients; • Adequate computer skills; • Respects and promotes individual and cultural differences; • Acts in accordance with the professional ethics and values. Equivalency When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the concerned Director may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience. NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
