UNPLUGGED In the early 2000s, Brian and I used to comment to each other about parents at the baseball park whose phones were constantly attached to their ears. “Who is THAT important?” we criticized. “Can’t the guy just watch his kid and not talk on the phone?” Then we got a cell phone; a single phone that we shared. Well, you know the rest of the story. Now we’re just like everyone else; checking our phones, texting and talking about losing the landline all together. (I am the holdout on this one. I still like being a name in a phone book because if people don’t have your cell, and they really need you … well, it’s my reasoning anyway.) So this weekend I’ll be unplugged. It is now an interesting, if slightly uncomfortable feeling. It’s like the old days again. But back then, we were all unplugged every time we left the house. Brian will hold down the fort at home but I’ll be with a group of friends in a lake house in Brown County. There’s a Verizon connection but not AT & T. So, I’m sort of MIA. No Facebook updates, no texting, no talking on the phone. It’s four o’clock and I can hardly wait the hour until we roll. Unplugged. I kind of like the idea. But come Sunday night, I will make a bee line for Facebook, my emails and messages and see what all of you have been up to. And I’ll do it before the Colts and Pats kick off. I took a chunk out of the day working on my table preparations for next Saturday, Nov. 22. It will be the first time I’ve had a Christmas theme when promoting the book. Even though my little Union County is, well, little, the Extension Homemakers program there is well known as exceptional and their annual bazaars in the middle school are considered quite remarkable. The talented and so kind Kelly Finch invited me to share her space, and I can’t be more grateful. She is so nice! And so is Nancy Huntington! Shout out to her for graciously also inviting me to share a spot with her. I look so forward to being back home again. If you are there, please stop and chat. I’ll be doing free gift wrapping with purchase. It’s an interesting thing, having only ONE product to sell while others have an assortment. At any rate, if you know me, you know I love a reason to come to the homeland, the sweet land of Liberty, Indiana. Hope to see you there. Meanwhile, you won’t be seeing me on here for a while. I’m going to southern Indiana right quick! So carry on. And have a great weekend.
