UNRESTRAINED FREEDOM Posted on July 22, 2014 Where is our liberty? Weighed down and worn out, we may often stand as the object of the crowd, the ones who throw chains and restraints and restrictions upon us, pushing us down, pulling upon us in all directions, confining us. But then He steps forward. His voice is like the roar of many waters, like the sound of piercing thunder. He simply declares, “Free,” and free we become. Chains have to dissolve, weights fall away, we stand upright. Look at us! We reposition ourselves into a place not afforded us just moments before. We are no longer in bondage, allocated to servitude. So we change our physical stance to reflect this shift. We stand up, stretch out, lift our heads higher. He has not left us alone to the tyranny of this crowd’s actions or their voices. He stands, instead, with us—for us. And when HE is for us, nothing/no one can stand against us. The habits and weights and masters of the past no longer have rule and reign over our lives. We live now FREE. And He is serious about our freedom! At the command of the True Master, we no longer affiliate or align ourselves with bondage. But who knew that such freedom would liberate us from our self-preservation and self-preoccupation and release us into love? Who knew that such freedom would release us to be brave enough to serve only God and, therefore, lovingly serve the people He died for? Who knew that bowing low again–not due to the chains and restrictions and weighty aspersions thrown upon us by others, but because of bravely loving our Freedom Fighter—could bring such joy and increase such freedom as we wash the feet of others, love those who may not love us in return, look out for those who are discarded, attend to those who struggle under the weight of so many chains? Who knew that bowing oh-so-low and carrying the Father’s heart to others from this low place would be such a gift of life? Who knew that going low could bring such thanksgiving? Today, maybe it is time that we knew, that we become the ones who know and believe and experience the full reality of true freedom. Maybe today is a good day to learn what living free truly looks like. Maybe today is a good day to listen only to His voice and address His questions. Today, He does have a question for us. So let’s bravely answer the question He puts to us: “So what are you doing with your freedom?” Let’s bravely love and live free today. Galatians 5:13–For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for [a]selfishness], but through love you should serve one another. restlesschipotle/lindahoyer/2014/07/22/unrestrained-freedom/
