UNSETTLED,SHOWERY,FROST LATER: Autumn has well and truly arrived in the Midlands following last nights storm. Highest wind speeds recorded from the system at clocked at 119 kph at Roches Point in Cork. These winds have since thankfully pushed eastwards into the Irish sea with a gradual clearance now covering much of the country. Today itself will be a bright and fresh day across the region with all areas seeing some sunny spells, but also some passing heavy showers. The heaviest of the showers will be across Roscommon, Longford, and the Shannon region. Feeling cool with highs reaching just 11 to 14 degrees Celsius. Tomorrow Tuesday is likely to be a reasonable day across the Midlands with Ireland lying in between two Atlantic weather systems. This will ensure light winds, and a fair amount of sunshine in all areas. There will however be the risk of the odd passing shower with western areas of the region again most at risk. Current indications suggest that Wednesday and Thursday will be very showery days across the region with all areas set to see some heavy and possibly thundery showers. There will be some drier periods also these however will be the exception rather than the rule. Highs will range between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius, and winds will be south easterly or variable in direction. Current indications suggest there will be a change in the weather over the weekend as much cooler conditions become established across the region. The good new however is that there will be plenty in the way of sunshine with just the odd scattered shower being blown southwards on the back of a light northerly breeze. Temperatures at night may dip close to freezing in a few areas and ground frost will certainly become an issue in rural areas bringing with it some dangerous driving conditions.
