UNTWIST IT!...Why Matthew 7:1 is widely quoted misused. It is conveniently misunderstood to deflect accountability and excuse sin by neglecting to address the so-called judged lifestyle in question. Simple examples: (among the believer) #1 If you see me drinking a beer and call me a drunk- thats judgement. #2 If you see me drinking a beer, inebriated and belligerent, then go back without addressing me and tell everybody I was pissy drunk -Thats messy. #3 If you see me drinking a beer, inebriated and belligerent and you contact me the next day when Im sober to show your concern and make sure Im ok - - Thats Christian love and restoration in humility. #4 If you ALWAYS see me drinking, high, and pissy drunk and tell me I need to get it together. --What we have here is a righteous judgement . It would be an unrighteous judgement if you were also drunk the night before, but it does not excuse our drunkenness. We both need to get it together so lets encourage each other to do better in righteousness, not justification of flesh through compromise. No one has to read the bible to quote or merely repeat (Judge Not, lest thou be judged.) But, everyone should read the rest of it to capture its context and understand its reference to hypocritical judgement, as shown in verse 5 of the same chapter. (First, take the log out of your own eye; then you will see clearly, SO THAT YOU CAN remove the splinter from your brother’s eye!) . . . If we are truly interested in truth, let us also commit to memory John 7:24cjb (Do not judge according to appearance, but JUDGE with righteous JUDGEMENT) ...and while were reading lets flip and read the entire 5th Chapter of 1 Corinthians, but for the sakes of space here, lets just take verses 12-13. (For what have I to do with judging outsiders ? Isnt it those who are part of the community (church) that you should be JUDGING? 13 God will judge those who are outside. Just expel the evildoer from among yourselves. . . . . Now of course this does not dismiss the precepts of humility and love, but how can we restore our brother in meekness if we cant even make the judgement to acknowledge that he has fallen? Determining right from wrong is all about judging. Discernment is all about Judging between spirits whether they are from God. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURE and dont get it twisted!
