UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES Jan 11, Dr. David Newell, Personal Identity. John Locke wondered what would happen if the soul of a prince somehow ended up in the body of a cobbler. Would we have a cobbler, or a prince, or neither? What is it that uniquely identifies us as persons, and what happens if it is altered, destroyed, or simply inaccessible? This question has interesting implications for us today. Jan 18, Motivational Theater of Easton, The Card Table. This is a comedic play that delivers an important message. It presents a special look into the lives of the disabled, which the U.S. census determines is one in five of us. In this presentation, three people -- a paraplegic, a woman with cerebral palsy and a war veteran recovering from addiction and mental illness -- discuss their lives while playing cards. Come prepared to have your mind and heart opened to the challenges that may touch your own life or those you love. Presented with the insight, humor and professionalism of The Gallagher Gang. Jan 25, Sherwin Markman, Seven Years at Sea: Some Life Lessons Learned. Sherwin and Peggy Markman followed the call of the sea! Sherwin left his D.C. career in the White House and as a private lawyer. Peggy left her career as a national officer and director of a womens rights organization. They embarked on a seven year adventure aboard their sailboat Esprit. From 1992 to 1999, they sailed up and down the American East coast, and then to the Bahamas and Dominican Republic on their way to a circumnavigation of the Caribbean. After this (by themselves) they crossed the North Atlantic to Portugal, sailed through the Straits of Gibraltar, and thence to Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Cyprus. In those years they learned much about solitude, coping with challenges, even terror. They gained a new understanding of the interdependence of all life where giving and receiving are one. Each day brought challenges and a greater love and respect for the vastness, power and spirituality of the sea with all its teeming life. Come to hear more of this nautical and spiritual adventure. Feb 1, Rev. Greg Chute Feb 8, Social Justice, Social Concerns Committee, Racial Justice.
