UPDATE --- Beaver Creek Fire 97 Percent Contained (Smoke coming in from Kelly Fire 25 miles west of Blaine County...now 7% contained) "While full containment was expected Saturday, hot spots near Wolftone Creek were discovered in heavier fuels. Hand crews extinguished these spots and reinforced containment lines. No active fire behavior on the fire was observed yesterday, which allowed crews to hit problem hot spots along the line and make progress rehabilitating hand line. Ron Smith, Operations Chief, said this morning, “the crews are set up for success today and are in good position to extend a chipping operation that will speed rehabilitation work in Baker Creek Drainage.” Engines and handcrews will monitor for smoke on the southern portion of the fire, and a light helicopter will be used to move equipment needed to support ground crews. Smoke from the Kelley Fire, burning seven miles southeast of Featherville, Idaho and 25 air miles west of Hailey, Idaho, drifted into the Wood River Valley yesterday afternoon. The Kelly fire is currently over 6,000 acres and seven percent contained. Warm and dry conditions today could promote growth on area fires. This may bring additional smoke into the Wood River Valley. By Monday, cloud cover and higher relative humidity should help firefighters this coming week. Trails within the burned area are now open. This includes the Adam Gulch, Lake Creek, Fox Creek, Chocolate Gulch and Oregon Gulch Trailheads. Forest Trail #328 in the Bald Mountain Permit Area is open, as well as the Warm Springs Road, #227 from the National Forest boundary to Rooks Creek.
