UPDATE - Yesterday, 6 weeks post chemo and radiation treatments, Brad Bastow and I met with my Radiologist and PA Ashleigh at my Oncology office. In a nutshell heres how it went: They flushed my port and did labs. Bloodwork came out good. Radiologist: I don’t need to see radiology anymore yay! They will still review my oncology office visits and read all my scans and mammograms. He told me that my mindset is different from his other patients. He told me to keep working on my good attitude. Ashleigh P.A. Oncology: She spent an hour and a half with us. They left the port in my chest because with my type of illness, if it returns it’s usually within 2 years. They will flush my port every 6-8 weeks (Brad can flush it for me between doctor visits) Ashleigh PA is starting up a survival program and asked if I want to participate. Hec yes! She’s the first person at Lax who has discussed survival with me. She said that recent studies prove the best fight against getting cancer and re-occurrence is exercise. 150 minutes per week. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Preferably a mixture of 17 varieties daily. Limit red meat. Eat more fish. REDUCE stress! Stress is a huge inflammatory. Handle stress sensibly not emotionally. Do not let things become a big deal. My Oncologist and breast surgeon will alternate seeing me every 3 months for the next 2 years. Then every 4 months for 1 year. Then every 6 months for 2 years. They will check me for skin cancers to the area or nodules. Ongoing visits will be determined at that time. There will be no follow up scans unless something looks suspicious. I have developed two large unknown bulges one on my left ribs and one large lemon size buldge on the right side of upper abdomen. Both are soft and neither Radiologist or Oncologist are concerned about them. They advise to have my breast surgeon examine them when I see her next month for my annual mammogram and one year follow up appointment. Deb: Doing good! My energy is returning. I went 5 days last week without taking a nap yay! I get tired, but not chronic where it stops me in my tracks. I get plenty of rest and eat a lot of fruits and veggies everyday. Usually 1-2 smoothies a day with a variety of F&V + protein, flax & chia seeds. Increasing my supplements. I take a large variation of supplements some of them are detox to cleanse my liver of toxins, tegreen to build cellular immunity a huge cancer fighter, Reishi Max cellular immunity builder defends against changes in our own cells, Ai/E10 Ultra supports immune cell communication, ProBio, Digestive, D3, Marine Omega, Vit C, + packets that support DNA, cellular/heart/brain/lung/skin health, etc. As I continue to gain energy my supplements will increase, diet will improve, and exercise regimen will expand. Right now all I do for exercise is roller blade. Amazing how 1 year off from exercise causes so much muscle loss ugh. I will start walking again and return to the gym. My excellent medical team have done their part. Now I get to do mine. Time to Re-build better than before! And of course the number 1 contributing factor to success is strong faith and prayer! :)
