UPDATE: Chief Gordon Eden says an officer was making a traffic stop about 2:30, suspecting a drunk driver. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver began shooting. He hit the officer twice. The officer is at the hospital with other police officers and family, said to be stable. The offender is still at large, considered armed and dangerous. He is said to be wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt and a brown baseball hat - about 6 and light-skinned. He was last seen running NB on San Mateo, going into a business area. APD is working on getting surveillance video and photos to release to the media. Chief Eden reiterates officers face danger day in and day out, that this is something that impacts not only their department but the community as a whole.
