***UPDATE FROM ARMAGH COURT TODAY*** These are the photos of the stunning Gypsey just before her disappearance, her prison for AT LEAST 3 days and how she was returned. There is no question that this sick individual is guilty of animal abuse. Today, Frederick John Adair today was offered a Caution in return for the PPS withdrawing the case, and he accepted that. Obviously many will see this as a disappointment and a failure to appropriately punish an animal abuser, however, we have to look at this realistically. Todays result is a good one, as I have said and this caution lasts for 5 years meaning if he does ANYTHING of this nature again, a trial is mandatory as he has been given his once chance. He reluctantly accepted responsibilty which means he also has to reimburse Victoria for the vet fees she incurred bringing Gypsey back to health. I was at the court and I was within ear shot when he was given his options, and he gloated that he was only getting a slap on the wrist (his own words) but was less than pleased that he had to take responsibility for his actions, financially and legally. I also heard him ask what about undue suffering to the human being?? Ive never heard the like of it! (again, his own misguided words) which angered me as he really does believe he has been the victim throughout this. The other way to look at that though is that this process was not easy for him, nor should it have been. He was clearly worried about what would happen but felt that was unjust. Living in close proximity to Mr Adair, Victoria has had to endure taunts as he passes her in his car and this has been unsettling for her, but she showed amazing strength and courage and followed through, pushing this process to the very end and in doing so, got a result that she is happy with. It is not ideal, but it is realistic. For now, we have to take all the victories we can and it is important to look at the cases recently where dogs where starved to death and the abusers received Unconditional Discharges. Taking this to trial would not have offered a guarantee of a prosecution and taken the Caution, while still offers no criminal record nor conviction, it does mean he accepted culpability and he had to compensate Victoria - a punishment he would not have had to do if handed Unconditional Discharge.
