UPDATE FROM BANGUI / March 11th «If you need money for treatment, you can leave home; we wont pay». Jacqueline lives in PK12, one of the least safe parts of Bangui - the capital city of the Central African Republic. Shes 13, and shes an orphan. After being beaten with a cudgel during one of the many battles that are bathing the city and the whole country in blood, she was left with an eye wound. They told her she needs to have her eyes examined, but she hasnt got the money for it. Her aunt and uncle, who shes been living with since she lost her parents, have no intention of paying: «You can leave home», they told her. Jacqueline is now in our Paediatric Centre. Our surgeons will operate on her tomorrow at the Complexe Pédiatrique, to remove the splinter of wood from her eye. We wont ask a penny from either her or her family, just as weve never asked and will never ask for anything from our patients: because receiving treatment when you need it is the right of everyone, not the privilege of those who can afford it. #CAR #CARcrisis #Centrafrique
