UPDATE: Last night, Ben Folds posted that Tim Reynolds is reviewing the feasibility of buying RCA Studio A and still protect/preserve it “for future generations to enjoy.” According to Mr. Folds’ post, if the redevelopment project is not “feasible” then Reynolds will withdraw his contract. First and foremost, THANK YOU to Mr. Reynolds for acknowledging the historical significance of the Studio, and showing tremendous character in doing so. And – of course – a HUGE THANKS to Ben Folds for writing the letter that started this tremendous grassroots effort to save @SaveStudioA, and now @SaveMusicRow. Because even if Mr. Reynolds backs out of his contract to purchase the studio and building, this issue is definitely not dead. The owners of the property still plan to sell it, which they have every right to do. But now, with other Music Row properties under current development and the soaring prices of available real estate anywhere near Music Row continuing to climb, the issue of preserving the integrity of Music Row just hit the boiling point … literally! The petition that was started just after Mr. Folds’ initial letter went public – currently with 1,046 signatures and counting – now becomes even more important than ever, and needs to keep going in order to let our local government officials know that the @SaveStudioA and @SaveMusicRow movements are ONLY a wake-up call from the citizens of Nashville and around the world that want to make sure that the historical significance and integrity of Nashville’s Music Row are preserved for the enjoyment of all future generations. This is the beginning of a very long journey, and one that will involve many long hours of meetings, conversations, and planning between local government officials, Nashville residents and business leaders, and any and all other interested parties. Here is the link to the petition: change.org/petitions/karl-dean-save-nashville-s-rca-studio-a-and-music-row-we-re-not-against-the-sale-of-real-estate-rather-asking-all-interested-parties-to-preserve-music-row-s-historical-significance-to-nashville-and-the-world To this end – and you can even call this a “beginning” – Mr. Folds is taking a brief “time out” from his current tour to attend the community gathering scheduled for 9am Monday morning in front of his studio, RCA Studio A at 30 Music Square West. Click on the picture below to read Mr. Folds’ latest letter to all interested parties, which he posted a short time ago. All of us in Nashville are truly blessed to live among some of the most creative people on the planet – Mr. Folds, of course, being one of them. And his most recent letter truly captures what the “spirit” of Music Row is really like, and why some of us are so passionate about preserving it. Read it … I promise you’ll be a better person because of it. See you all Monday morning!
