UPDATE! Linda here. Today Tracy, Yvette and I had a meeting with Brendan Toomey, David Jones and some other council folk down the Civic. The problems with this policy were discussed in considerable length, especially the monetary pressure this lump payment sum is putting on already struggling parents. This council are standing firm behind this policy but they have agreed that the way the letters were worded as well as the conduct of their staff was wrong and the matter is being taken in hand. They have also said that they are offering a compromise with regards to the payments. They are offering the choice of having a payment card and paying daily, weekly, 2 weekly etc, basically whatever way you want to budget the cost thereby causing the minimal financial distress. A new letter will be sent out stating this next week. Apologies for not posting sooner but I have had a hectic day! What are parents thoughts on this, is this acceptable?
