UPDATE: My rainbow baby will be going in for surgery very soon! The surgeons are working on scheduling now and will get back to us on Monday. Right now they are hoping for May 6th but if they cant coordinate then it will be pushed back to the 13th. After a week of consulting the top neurosurgeons in the US and consulting with Landons amazing Plastic Surgeon it was a unanimous decision to postpone the Shunt placement. We are going to take the option of starting the distraction process first in the hopes of extra skull volume and released pressure on the brain will help things flow better and more efficiently. They do not want to place the shunt if the problem will cure itself in a month. The surgeon said this is a little bit of a gamble but we could hit a major home run. So we are swinging for the fences!!! For those of you unfamiliar with the terminology when I say distraction it means that they will make an ear to ear incision on Landons scalp and go in and separate all the of the fused sutures with little metal springs the springs or distractors will be attached to two external metal arms (will look like two metal antennas ) on the top of his head. We will turn the metal arms with an mini wrench for almost a month. With each turn he will get more space. After a month we will stop turning and new bones will grow into those gaps. Once the bones are hard enough they will go back in and pull all the hardware.
