UPDATE ON PUTNAM KITTEN PRINCE, pulled yesterday: Vet called to tell Ruth that sweet little Prince has a long, tough battle ahead, He has Calicivirus. Had he been vaccinated with the FVRCP shot, just as puppies need parvo shots, he would have had a much lesser chance of contracting this very severe illness. He will be headed to Saffaris quarantine area and will not be available for adoption for a very long time. Pray for him as he will be fighting a long, hard battle, as will Ruth. He will need 24 hr care with syringe feeding, as he cannot eat on his own due to the pain in his mouth, and down his throat, which are covered in bloody, painful swollen sores. He will also be taking strong antibiotics to combat this illness and Ruth will provide sub q fluids. This poor baby doesnt deserve this miserableness. My heart is broken. The only good news is that, as always, our angel Ruth is taking on his care, and I will continue to house the 3 littermates here in quarantine for the next 10-14 days. They are showing no symptoms at this point. All other foster kittens will be leaving me as of this afternoon so we can keep them all safe and continue to be separated. They have all been vaccinated multiple times with the FVRCP vaccine and no contact with this litter, so should all be just fine. THIS is why we always initially quarantine. This is not the first time Saffari has saved cats and kittens that have had this virus. One of our other fosters is fighting the same battle, bless her. It is a long, tough road. Prayers for Prince and care donations very very appreciated mysaffarinc@gmail.
