UPDATE: SFAs AMIYA and ADONIS A Tail of Two Pitties It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way. . . I love this quote from Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities The quote references the dichotomy found then, and today, of both good and evil. This is the case for our two beloved pitties currently in our rehab program as it has been for all our babies, past and present. Amiya and Adonis have suffered woefully at the hands of both dark and light, good and evil. AMIYA: The doctors have stated that this is as close to dying as possible. Both agree, my friend Dr AW, and her doctor today, Dr. Buvinghausen, that is next to impossible for this dog to be alive. Dr. B gave her a body score of 0.5/5!!! That would officially make her the worse we have had in our care. Means nothing to her though, all she hears that she is a 10/10 to her mummy. Just keep strutting that stuff, little momma, is what we tell her. Dr. B was so amazed at her attitude during her visit this morning. Amiya weighed twenty six pounds today, an amazing five pound weight gain in three days. Hydrating her alone probably helped her gain at least three of those pounds. She is still very frail, although she would take major issue with that. Before anyone begins making comments about the state of her nails, allow us to say that we attempted to trim her nails but it became so upsetting to her that she struggled and fainted due to the stress involved. The fact that we find it necessary to make this comment would also then dictate that we will NOT respond to any comments regarding this issue. There are far more dire issues that this gal must overcome and the necessity for a mani/pedi is not one of them. Her lab values are remain of concern with her albumin levels remaining the same, very low. She is still very anemic and her heart is struggling to overcome the anemia. The best we can do for her at the moment is to keep her in an adequate state of hydration, feed her frequent small calorie dense meals, and supplement her with injectable B vitamins. Of no surprise, she is heartworm positive and also combating a very high burden of hook and whip worms, intestinal parasites. Amiyas bed-sores are serious with bone visible in both hips. She is receiving antibiotics for this condition as well as hydro-therpay. Mentally, this is quite likely one of the most willful cases of survival. Not only is she willful, she is amazingly affectionate and does not like to be alone. She is receiving around the clock care and attention and when left, bays like a hound demanding the return of the offender who has the audacity to leave her without her formal dismissal. The video of of Amiya just prior to being fed. She is still much too weak to stand when she barks.
