UPDF JETS IN Fresh Troops to consolidate gains made in Somalia. After a one year offensive operations against Alshabaab that led to the capture of many strategic towns from Alshabaab extremists including their Headquaters of Barawe port city, Uganda has sent in a fresh force to pacify the areas recently captured. The force named Uganda Battle Group 14 under the command of Col Kyambadde arrived in Mogadishu-Somalia aboard a UN chartered flight at the early hours of Tuesday 28th November 2014. They were received by the deputy force commander of AMISOM in charge of Operations and training Maj General Geoffrey Muheesi, Senior Somali National Army officials and other military officers at Mogadishu International Airport. BG 14, will be the leading force of the Uganda Contingent under AMISOM led by the newly appointed commander Brigadier Sam Kavuma who takes over from Brig Dick Olum. We wish the troops good luck as we continue to pacify our Somali brothers and sisters.
