UPP lampoons Abia governor over poor governance REGIONAL, SOUTH EAST The United Progressive Party, UPP, has said the governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, has no idea how to transform the state and provide the dividends of democracy to its people. In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ogbuehi Dike, to mark the 23rd anniversary of the creation of Abia State, the party he state was stinking and that it had become a laughing stock in the country due to inept leadership of the governor. It alleged that Mr. Orji juxtaposed developmental projects with cronyism infrastructure. Abia State was created in August 1991. Part of the state was, however, excised to join a part of Enugu State to form the present Ebonyi State. The UPP said the famous Enyimba City, Aba had become a zoo while Umuahia, the state capital was now a glorified village, stressing, “Sadly, the PDP government has failed the good people of Abia State.” The opposition party added, “In ill-conceived celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the creation of Abia State on 27th August 2014, Chief Authur Eze, an illustrious son of Ndigbo and PDP chieftain, lambasted the Governor Orji over poor governance of the State, emphasizing that “Abia Stinks”. “Authur Eze spoke the minds of all Abians which buttressed our position that Abia is the worst governed State in the country. We call on patriotic Abians, indeed Ndigbo to support this bold and unequivocal statement from Chief Authur Eze to rescue the State from the cabal that has held it captive and hostage since 2007.” The UPP said Abia State was in need an “intensive surgery to clear the PDP misrule that mortgaged the destiny of the people for a mess of pottage from our common patrimony.” The party also said it was on a rescue mission to save Abia State from extinction and captivity. It urged urge the people of the State to support a progressive party that would provide dividends of democracy, not carnage. It said, “Great Abians, it is time to change oppressive and reactionary forces with progressivism. It is time to rebuild and transform Abia State. It is time to resist autocracy and dictatorship. Be part of the mass movement which UPP represents to enthrone genuine democracy and good governance. It is time for action. “2015 general election provides an opportunity to change the PDP regime. We urge eligible voters to obtain their permanent voter cards, perform their civic duties on election days and ensure their votes are counted and count in the overall result. Together we shall rescue Abia State.”
