UPV & GNU sign MOA on research partnership UP Visayas (UPV) and the Gyeongsang National University (GNU) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) anew to facilitate and further strengthen research initiatives and collaboration between the two Universities on September 5, 2013 at the UPV Iloilo City campus. The MOA is based on the academic cooperation that both institutions previously inked on March 22, 2010 during the term of former UPV Chancellor Minda J. Formacion. Dr. Gun Wook Baeck, a professor of GNU, personally brought the agreement, which was signed by GNU President Soon-Ki Kwon and Dr. Yong Gil Jung, Dean of the College of Marine Sciences (CMS), GNU as witness in Korea. Chancellor Rommel A. Espinosa signed in behalf of UPV. Dr. Carlos C. Baylon, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) also signed as witness. Baeck has been collaborating with CFOS College Secretary Dr. Gerard F. Quinitio regarding the said MOA. The MOA is intended to encourage international research cooperation in areas of and mutual use of related research facilities between UPV through CFOS and the GNU through CMS. Specifically, it stipulates collaborative research undertakings on fisheries ecology, mutual use of related research facilities such as the use of library, laboratories, equipment, and other facilities, exchange of information and materials and rights/ownership of all research outputs, publications, discoveries, technologies and other inventions made from the collaborative efforts. GNU is one of the flagship Korean National Universities with main campus in Jinju, South Korea. GNU is especially known for its specialized fields of bioscience, mechanical aviation engineering, and new nano-materials. The MOA is effective upon signing and is valid for three years. This can be renewed by mutual consent of both parties after evaluating all the program components. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) Encarnacion Emilia Santos- Yap and Dr. Quinitio were present during the MOA signing.
